The summer programme takes a cohort through the Invention Education cycle in one stretch: understand a need in a clinical setting, filter it, build in the workshop and present what you made.

Summer Programme 2026: Medical device innovation

Seventeen innovators from universities in Kenya, Nigeria and the USA joined CDIE at Kenyatta University. After clinical immersions in two hospitals they filtered the needs they had seen, took workshop classes and presented their research and medical-device demos at the close.

Recent graduates and students who had completed coursework in a science or engineering degree
Cost to the participant
Ksh 7,000, with sponsorship of up to 90 percent covering transport, prototyping materials, meals and accommodation

Two hospitals, followed by needs filtering
